Movements from William Byrd’s landmark Masses with settings of texts from other faith traditions and from scientists & philosophers, including three movements (Introit, Earth & Sin) from Shapiro’s Sumptuous Planet: A Secular Mass
Chicago Chamber Choir
Sumptuous Planet focuses on humanity’s relationship with the natural world. The concert title is drawn from a work of the same name by Philadelphia-based composer David Shapiro, and each composition is selected to draw attention to the stewardship of our planet, the beauty of the world around us, and the fragility of the environment.
A new work from George Lewis is joined by previous commissions of Kirsten Broberg and David Shapiro (It is Time) and a thoughtful setting of a Czeslaw Milosz poem by Latvian Peteris Vasks | | The Crossing, Donald Nally, Conductor
